Our Theme This Year:ProximityProximity means nearness or closeness in space, time or relationship. There is power in proximity as it relates to diversity, equity and inclusion. The closer we can get to a person, an event or a situation, the better we are able to understand it. We can read about and study these areas, but we can take an even bigger step forward by taking the initiative to engage in each other’s lives. As we continue our journeys, we can each take ownership of our individual proximity through our human interactions. We can be intentional with these efforts and the expansion of our networks. We can continue to look beyond our own worldview, making time to focus on education and challenging ourselves to have conversations centered on diversity, equity and inclusion. The more we go into these spaces with an open mind and heart, the more proximal we get and the stronger we become as a community on our shared journey. |

CARE2 FundThe CARE2 Fund was established to give members of the USLI community the opportunity to request donations to charities or causes to which they have personal connections. In 2012, the Fund was reorganized as a 501(c)3 charitable organization and renamed CARE2 Fund at USLI Inc. This allows donors to receive a charitable deduction for their contributions. In 2012, the mission of the CARE2 Fund at USLI Inc. was expanded. The Fund now also serves as a portal for funds raised from the community to support causes selected specifically by the company. This allows our community members to receive receipts for their charitable contributions. |

Breastcancer.orgBreastcancer.org is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the most reliable, complete and up-to-date information about breast cancer. Over the years, we have organized a variety of fundraising events, but we had to get creative in 2020 and 2021 and adapt to more virtual fundraising. In 2021, we successfully executed October Together — Stronger Together, a month of virtual events and online auctions to educate others, bring people together and raise funds in a fun way. Some of our events included a Pink Out Your Pet Contest, a virtual 5K, a variety show and more. USLI also donates 1% of all new business premium to Breastcancer.org during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In 2021, we donated $361,196 to Breastcancer.org. VIEW GALLERY |

Meals for Healthcare WorkersFrom 2020 to 2021, USLI sponsored 12th Street Catering, an eco-friendly, Philadelphia-based catering company, to provide meals for frontline health care workers employed at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Lankenau Medical Center, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. This initiative not only provided 12th Street Catering, a local food-service business, with an opportunity to stay in operation during this time, but also provided support to local health care workers during the pandemic via fresh take-home meals.
